Contemporary Hempery is a vibrant project in the heart of Suffolk, reviving the UK hemp textile industry

Within the alleys of Wakelyns, a thriving CIC is working together to revive organic hemp for textile across the UK.

CULTURE

Reviving the growing of hemp for textile in the UK.

Before imported cotton, poly cotton, polyester and fleece the people of this nation weren’t walking about naked, no, they were clothed in natural fibres and textiles woven from wool, flax and hemp.

CREATIVITY

Creating luxurious, colourful patterned hemp fabric.

There’s nothing wrong with plain hemp textile, its soft, hard wearing and practical.

Contemporary Hempery is on a mission to showcase what other brilliant and diverse creations hemp can be, using colour, pattern and joy.

CONNECTION

Working in community to connect people, land and materials.

In the words of the great Satish Kumar, soil is the origin of everything, we need to put soul back in to our world and create a loving society.

The entire process from planting to processing the fabric is made more fulfilling and exciting when others are involved.

'We've made lifelong friends from the project and learned invaluable lessons, united by hemp'.
